The adventures of Fe & Chris

The oldest church in Central America

Our Spanish school lays on some vaguely organised activities to keep us entertained in the afternoons. During a wonderfully sunny afternoon we stayed in and watched a film called El Norte. The following day we went to visit what is reputed to be the oldest church in Central America in a town called Salcajá. Unfortunately it rained remarkably hard and God wasn´t at home - the door was locked and the church hasn´t been used for years. It isn´t a very pretty church: it looks like it has been liberally plastered with concrete sometime between now and 1400. It does have some amusing comedy lions and bananas above the door though.

We steamed on the chicken bus home. All very soggy. Next time we´ll attempt to add some photos for your viewing pleasure.

Oldest Church in Central America?

As an update from the UK - Edinburgh is wet today. I saw a white tailed lapwing yesterday (which was nice) and have dropped my bike off to get the cables tightened etc.
See, your old church is actually pretty exciting compared to my life.

Have just been reading about El Norte, I’ll have to get that one sent down, sounds really good and great that it kept you in out of the sun. Have also just looked up your church (I am supposed to be entering catch reports but Guetamalan research is much more interesting!) and I am sure that after enduring 482 years of earthquakes then you would be looking a bit shabby too!

Are there really chickens on all these buses? Where are they going?

Well now, hello there, what’s this about the oldest church in Central America. Got to take these reputations with a pinch of salt I’d say, take Valencia if you will. Why? Well I’ve been there, you see, and it definitely has the oldest church in Central America . . . well perhaps not, but it does reputedly have the holy grail. Couple of Euros, in you go, what do you a get? A green cup! The whole experience left me feeling slightly jaded I can tell you. And not a psychopathic monk in sight, would you credit it, Dan Brown wouldn’t!

Anyway, what a shame, God was out was he? Is that possible if one happens to be of the omnipresent persuasion?

Now then this is quite a nice site isn’t it. Is it a blog? There’ll be no blogging on my site I can tell you. I rather like to think of my website as the forefather of this site in the history of Chris designing web sites. What’s that you ask? Oh yes, how remiss of me it’s:

Now if that doesn’t improve my google rating I’ll be back for more. You could learn a bit from my site. There’s lots of pictures. Nothing but pictures in fact. Even the text is pictures. I’m a pictures kind of guy.

I can’t believe your Mum and Dad didn’t say hello to me too. I’m gutted! After all those biscuits.

Hello to everyone! Including Chris’ Mum and Dad and sorry I am not the person to ask about birds!

In line with El Grouso I would like to update the weather for the Abernethy area - wet

Other than that I have nothing to add on anything or even a website worth plugging!

Yes, it’s most remiss of my M&D not to say hello to Mike. So I shall say “hello Mike” on their behalf. Hello to everyone else as well.

At the moment they’re staying at Soph’s B&B. Last night Dad was most productive in watching the tely on his eyelids. They probably had their sleep disturbed last night, by what I thought at the time was thunder and lightning, but according to the local news a house exploded at 2am. Very exciting!
